The Art of Reweaving
We Specialize In Repair
Watch a video on how Reweaving is done. Vahan takes you from start to finish in this video!
Reweaving is a lost Art. Ask anyone if they know what reweaving is and most likely the answer will be “No”. But ask them again if they have ever had a moth hole or a tear in an expensive garment that they felt was ruined forever and the answer would most likely be “Yes!” The problem is that there are so little Re-Weavers left throughout the United States that most people don’t even know that these types of repairs can be made to bring their clothes to look brand new again!
Reweaving is a very specialized expertise in which the craftsman can repair tears and holes in virtually any type of clothing. We specialize in “French or Invisible Weaving”, In-Weaving” or “Piece Weaving” and “Re-Knitting” or “Knit Weaving.” We can repair virtually every type of garment including cashmere, tweed, plaid, wool, most silks, linen, cotton and knits. Customers often bring us garments with cigarette burns, moth holes, silverfish damage, tears and snags.
The technique “French Weaving” or “Invisible Weaving” is done by taking threads from hidden areas of the garment and weaving the same strands of the fabric through the hole thread by thread where the existing hole disappears becoming “Invisible.” Although it is almost invisible to the eye, some of the results may have variations depending on the pattern.
The technique of “In-Reweaving or Piece Weaving” is used for larger holes or tears. A patch of fabric is taken from a hidden area of the garment and used to create the same pattern and weave over the hole.
The technique of “Re-Knitting” or “Knit Weaving” is used on sweaters or knit wear in which yarn is used from the same material. We can shorten the knit garments sleeves or length.
We can repair many other types of holes, contact us for details. Because Reweaving is an extremely meticulous process, even a small hole can sometimes take many hours to repair. Therefore this process requires a lot of patience and diligence. This is truly an Art Form as “Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it, Our work of excellence is our autograph.” – Author Unknown
